Competitions
Talk to faculty in the department to find out who is coaching students for the following competitions:
- Putnam Competition (sponsored by the MAA) . A day solving 12 hard math problems, requiring little more than calculus. Solve one and you're better than average... Early December.
- Mathematical Contest in Modeling (COMAP). 3 days where you and your team use mathematical modeling to present your solutions to real world problems. In February. Same organization sponsors an interdisciplinary modeling contest.
- Undergraduate Statistics Project Competition New this year. Between January and May, work on a stats project involving real data.

A search tool for graduate schools. This site provides detailed evaluations of graduate programs in mathematics (and other disciplines). You choose the criteria you want to count, and also the weight each criterion should have. The search engine then ranks graduate programs according to your criteria, displaying their ranking and how well they perform with respect to each of your criteria. You can also check the RPI site for other links on graduate schools.
