| 01/27 | At 3 p.m. in the forum, Nick Horton will give a talk titled "Maternal influenza and schizophrenia: statistical sleuthing during epidemics." This talk is based on work he did with Emily Shapiro '04 last summer. |
| 02/03 | At 3 p.m. in Rm. 307, Ruth Haas will talk about "Permutations with a Twist." This talk will be followed by tea in the forum. |
| 02/04 | The Smith College Connecticut Valley Colloquium brings us speaker Janos Pach (Courant Institute of New York University; Renyi Institute of Hungarian Academy of Sciences). The title of his talk is "Intersection Patterns of Geometric Objects." Refreshments and tea will be served at 4:00 p.m. in Burton 3rd floor forum, and the talk will begin at 4:30 p.m. in McConnell 404. |

| 02/14 | 4:10 p.m. Burton 301. Dr. Andrea Foulkes (UMass) "Characterizing genotype-phenotype relationships with application to HIV." Dr. Foulkes has offered to meet with students regarding graduate school and career opportunities in statistics. |
| 02/17 | At 3:00 p.m. in the forum, Prof. Marjorie Senechal will talk on "The Sculpture Revisited." This will be a hands-on presentation about the sculpture in the main entrance of Burton and related ideas. Then join us for math tea at 3:50. |

| 02/28 | MaTh Movie and GaMe NiGht!!! The fun begins at 9:00 p.m. in the forum. We'll watch "Rain Man," play nerdy math games, and eat tons of junk food. Stop by any time between 9 and 11. |

| 03/24 | The Smith Mathematics Department Annual Alice Dickinson Lecture will be held at 4:30 in McConnell 404. Prior to the talk there will be tea at 4:00 in Burton forum. The invited speaker is Mary Lou Zeeman (U. Texas San Antonio), and the title of the talk is "How does estradiol initiate the LH surge? A modeling approach." There will be a dinner at Teapot after the talk. The dinner is free to all Smith Math students and faculty. Grilled stuff, including the department's own recipe for veggie burgers, salads, etc. Games, t-shirts, plus (possibly) a performance of a piece by Maria Theresa Gaetano, sister of Maria Agnesi Gaetano, who wrote (in 1748) the first calculus text.
