09/29 Lecture by Prof Leanne Robertson (Smith Math Dept) on "Cyclotomic Integers and Fermat's Last Theorem" at 3:00 p.m., followed by tea in Burton forum at 4:00.
10/06 Mark Glickman (Boston University) will talk on "Magic, Probability, and Statistics" at 3:00 p.m. in Burton 301, followed by tea in Burton forum at 4:00.
10/13 The Departments of Mathematics and Computer Science present the Neal McCoy Lecture. Peter Schroder, Professor of Computer Science and Applied & Computational Mathematics at Caltech, is this year's guest lecturer. The title of his talk is "Three Points make a Triangle--or a Circle." The talk will take place at 5:00 pm in Seelye 201, and will be preceded by refreshments at 4:30 in Burton forum.
10/17 Chaired Professor Lecture by Mike Albertson: "Graph Coloring: A Mathematical Curiosity Grows Up." Seelye 106 4:30 p.m.
10/19 Presentation of the MATH MAJOR!! Come learn about why you should be a math major. Dinner from Teapot will be provided. 5:30-7:00 p.m. in Burton forum.
10/21 Elizabeth Stuart (Smith '97) will be giving a statistics talk, "Evaluating a school dropout prevention program: Estimation of causal effects through matching" from 12:10-1:00 p.m. in McConnell 404. The department will provide a pizza lunch, which means all that is required of you is to show up!
10/27 At 3:00 p.m. in Burton 301, Tanya Leise (Amherst College) will talk on the Dynamics of a Multistage Circadian System.
10/28 Special seminar in honor of Otelia Cromwell Day 2005. Dr. Yvonne Freeman, Executive Director of SECME, Inc. will talk on "Weapons of Mass Distraction" at 5:00 p.m. in McConnel B05. Refreshments will be served at 4:45 p.m.
11/10 Pau Atela and Chris Gole will talk on "Piling Coins on a Cylinder: A Plant Game" at 3:00 in Burton 301. This will be followed by tea in the forum at 4:00.
11/17 Chris Hardin will talk on "The Axiom of Choice and Predicting the Future" at 3:00 pm in Burton 301, followed by tea at 4 pm in the Math Forum.
