The Smith Mathematics Community

The mathematical year at Smith features lectures, conferences, panels, presentations, problem sessions, team competitions, and performances. Something happens every week. Recent visitors include a mathematical sculptor, a biographer, a philosopher of mathematics, several Smith alumnae, and of course mathematicians from both academia and industry. We maintain an online mathematics calendar as well as a listing of news and past events.

One of the most well-used features of the Smith math community is the Math Forum. It’s a great place to work on your math homework, catch up with your friends, play a game of SET, or just take a nap. Smith math students love to work together, and the faculty encourages collaboration. If you want to know what it's like to do math at Smith, just ask anyone hanging out in the Forum. (It even has a phone, sometimes answered: 413-585-3860.)

The Smith mathematical community includes faculty, students, and alumnae. Smith has been producing women mathematicians for more than a century. Conferences for alumnae and current students happen regularly (the next meeting will be held in 2009) and alumnae form an important resource for participants and graduates. You can see some pictures from the previous alumnae conferences here and (soon, here).
