The Smith College Department of Mathematics and Statistics invites applications for a Mellon Post-doctoral Fellowship in mathematics or statistics beginning in Fall 2008. This two-year position carries a reduced teaching load of one course per semester. A Ph.D. in mathematics or related discipline must have been received between June 2004 and the appointment date. Excellence in teaching is essential, as is evidence of a strong and ongoing research program.

Our department has broad interests in theoretical and applied mathematics and statistics. Smith is a member of the Five College consortium, which supports a vibrant mathematical community. The NSF funded Center for Women in Mathematics at Smith offers additional opportunities to work with women heading toward graduate school in mathematics. The Center matches students with faculty mentors to engage in research. We are especially interested in applicants who will help mentor our diverse student body.
