The Praxis program gives each Smith sophomore or junior access to a one-time $2,000 stipend that ensures she can afford to participate in a summer internship that draws on her academic background and builds on her career goals. During the summer of 2004, Math majors utilized the Praxis program as an opportunity to gain experience working in places as diverse as the Department of Radiation at the University of Chicago (IL), an accounting firm in West Hartford (CT), the Dance Center (ME), Maine Civil Liberties (ME), Northwestern University (IL), the Emergency Department at Bellevue Hospital in New York (NY), and a communications firm in Istanbul (Turkey).
