MTH 221: Infite Dimensional Linear Algebra

In this course you'll explore (perhaps for the first time) an infinite-dimensional world. We'll get around in that world with mathematics similar to that used in Linear Algebra, but augmented to allow for infinities. That augmentation is surprisingly subtle and often counterintuitive. It allows us to see infinite series and sequences as geometric objects; to describe the outer boundary of a universe that can be approached arbitrarily closely, but never reached; and to define a mathematical structure which is used to find the spectrum of energies of a quantum particle.

When I say ``you'll explore" an infinite dimensional world I mean it quite literally. The class will be taught as a collaborative learning experience. Every week you'll work in groups to understand definitions, prove theorems, write papers, and present your group's work to the class.
Have you ever wondered how computer programs that rotate 3 dimensional
